Carroll Varsity Roundup (April 23): Johnson leads Man Valley softball to Carroll County Athletic League crown

Manchester Valley’s softball team captured its second Carroll County Athletic League championship with a 13-2 victory over South Carroll on Wednesday.

It is the program’s first county title win since 2016 and the team’s sixth straight victory this season. The Mavericks remain undefeated in the county at 10-0 and improved to 11-3 overall.


Kassidy Johnson hit a grand slam and three doubles, and drove in six runs. Jacquelyn Gouge went 2-for-3 with a home run for the Mavs. SC’s Olivia Reardon went 3-for-3 for the Cavaliers (3-11, 2-7).

Century 11, Winters Mill 0

Recap: At Eldersburg, the Knights (6-7, 5-4 county) scored six runs in the first inning to defeat the Falcons (5-6, 4-4). Lexi Vintz had four RBIs and a double for Century.

South River 18, Century 6

Recap: At Eldersburg on Tuesday, Emily Kain hit a home run for the Knights (5-7).


Century 14, Winters Mill 10

Recap: At Eldersburg, Dylan Hairfield went 4-for-4 with a double and a home run for the Knights (9-4, 7-2 county). Matt Born contributed five RBIs and a homer and Jake Diehl went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a double. Grant Bradt went 3-for-4 and added a double and Conner Peters and Alex Barnes hit homers for the Falcons (3-9, 2-6).

South Carroll 16, Manchester Valley 7

Recap: At Manchester, Aidan Greaney had a triple and five RBIs for the Cavaliers (7-5, 6-4 CCAL) and Blake Etzel had four hits. Tommy Murray drove in four hits for the Mavericks (8-6, 5-5).

Annapolis Area Christian 13, Gerstell 1

Recap: At Annapolis, the Falcons fell to 7-5 in Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association ‘B’ Conference action.

Recap: At Westminster, Michael Napolitano and Andrew Sien won singles matches for the Knights (10-2, 9-1 CCAL). Brian Inglis and Matt Ingles won at No. 1 doubles for WM (5-5, 4-5)

Recap: At Winfield, the Mavericks improved to 7-4 (6-4 CCAL) behind singles wins from Matthew Fairchild and Chase Estes, while the Cavs fell to 2-12, 1-10.

Recap: At Westminster, the Knights (8-3, 7-3 CCAL) rolled with a sweep. WM fell to 1-9, 0-9.

Recap: At Winfield, Casey Reno and Jess Beddow won singles points for the Cavaliers (11-3, 9-2 CCAL). The Mavs are 3-8, 2-8.

Recap: At Uniontown on Tuesday, the Lions got back to .500 (5-5, 2-3 CCAL) behind 17 won face-offs from Robert Ortiz. Steven Talbot had three goals and two assists. FSK fell to 3-6, 0-5.
