Lonnie McLain’s RBI triple in the seventh inning helped lift Francis Scott Key past host Manchester Valley 5-4 in Carroll County Athletic League baseball action Tuesday afternoon.

McLain also pitched a complete game for the Eagles, who improved to 3-7 and won their first CCAL game of the spring (1-7). Justin Haines had two RBIs and one of three doubles for Key, which has won three times in four games.


Dalton Groupp had a triple for the Mavericks (8-5, 5-4), and Tommy Murray had three hits.

Westminster 3, Frederick 0

Recap: At Frederick, Jake Sell’s three-run homer in the first was the difference for the Owls (9-5) in their fourth straight win.

Gerstell 11, Severn 9

Recap: At Finksburg, the Falcons (7-4, 7-4 MIAA B) lost a seven-run early lead but Max Friedman doubled in two runs in the sixth inning.


Manchester Valley 7, Francis Scott Key 2

Recap: At Manchester, the Mavs stayed perfect in CCAL play (10-3, 9-0) behind a three-run home run from Kassidy Johnson and a two-run shot from Erika Bitzel. Key is 5-7, 3-7.

Winters Mill 9, Liberty 5

Recap: At Westminster, Liz Chaney had a home run and Kassidy Gibson went 3-for-4 for the Falcons (6-5, 5-3 CCAL). Jordan Nastos went 3-for-4 with two doubles for the Lions (2-9, 2-7).

Westminster 12, Frederick 6

Recap: At Frederick, the Owls (8-5) snapped a two-game skid and Laura Tipton pitched for the win. Jackie Coyle went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, and four RBIs.

Boys Tennis

Liberty 5, South Carroll 0

Recap: At Eldersburg, Tyger Zan and Reda Babas won singles points for the Lions (10-0, 10-0 CCAL). The Cavs are 2-11, 1-9.

Century 3, Francis Scott Key 2


Recap: At Uniontown, the Knights (9-2, 8-1 CCAL) got doubles wins from Michael Napolitano/Nick Simon and Mason Motter/Brennan Deibel. Justin Reiger won in three sets at first singles for FSK (0-10, 0-8).

Recap: At Eldersburg, the Lions stayed unbeaten (10-0, 10-0 CCAL) with a No. 1 doubles win from Emily Brecker and Noelle Htwar. SC (10-3, 8-2) got a No. 3 doubles win from Julia Simoncini and Rachel Linn.

Century 4, Francis Scott Key 1

Recap: At Uniontown, the Knights (7-4, 6-3 CCAL) swept the doubles matches for a county victory. Emma Smith won at first singles for the Eagles (0-10, 0-8).

Recap: At Eldersburg, Jalen Stanton paced the Knights (10-1, 4-1 CCAL) with three goals and one assist. Kaden Ross had three goals for the Falcons (4-7, 0-5).

Liberty 14, Francis Scott Key 6

Recap: At Uniontown, the Lions got back to .500 (5-5, 2-3 CCAL) behind 17 won face-offs from Robert Ortiz. Steven Talbot had three goals and two assists. FSK fell to 3-6, 0-5.

Girls Lacrosse

South Carroll 13, Manchester Valley 10

Recap: At Manchester, the Cavaliers (9-1, 4-1 CCAL) overcame an early deficit to post a road win. Riley Evans had five goals and Paige Abbott had three. MV (5-5, 2-3) led 7-4 at halftime but couldn’t hang on despite three goals and three assists from Jeri Garland. Madi Callahan added three goals.

Liberty 13, Francis Scott Key 3

Recap: At Eldersburg, Heidi Ellis had three goals on Senior Night for the Lions (6-5, 2-3 CCAL), who snapped a five-game losing streak. Alanna Wray added two goals and two assists.

JV result: Liberty, 12-9.

Catonsville 20, Westminster 19

Recap: At Catonsville, Hannah Dintino led the Owls (6-5) with seven goals and two assists. Anna Ruby scored five goals and Chloe Sedlar netted three.

Maryvale Prep 13, Gerstell 10

Recap: At Finksburg, Emily Messinese had five goals for the Falcons (4-9, 3-8 IAAM A), and Haley Gochnauer reached 200 career points.
