Carroll Varsity Roundup: Sharman twirls no-hitter, Cavs clip McDonogh

Chloe Sharman pitched a no-hitter and struck out 12 batters in South Carroll's 1-0 victory over McDonogh on Friday in non-county softball action.

At the bottom of the fourth inning, Olivia Reardon led off with an infield single, stole second base, and later scored on a fielder's choice for the only run of the game. Anna Lomax added a triple for the Cavs (3-5).


Winters Mill 12, Liberty 6

Recap: At Westminster, Hailey Warfield hit a double and Zoe Deniker got the win for the Falcons (4-2, 3-1 county). Kaya Holmes notched two RBI-singles for the Lions (3-3, 3-2).

Century 17, Francis Scott Key 5

Recap: At Uniontown, Chichi Ahulamibe went 3-for-4 with a triple and Emily Kain notched a double for the Knights (7-1, 5-0 county). Brianna Kessler hit two doubles and Lexi Vintz hit a home run. Jessica Blanchard notched a triple for the Eagles (2-5, 0-5).

Brunswick 13, Man Valley 10

Recap: At Manchester on Thursday, the Mavericks got triples from Kassidy Johnson, Stephanie Barksdale, Erika Bitzel, and Kass Gibson. Emily Christmann had three hits and a home run. Bitzel had three RBIs.


Century 18, Francis Scott Key 0

Recap: At Uniontown, the Knights scored 15 runs in the seventh inning to overcome the Eagles. Ethan Kiple and Matt Borne each had three hits and a double. Jared Lamb added four hits and three doubles for the Knights (6-2, 5-0 county). Lonnie McClain went 2-for-4 for the Eagles (1-7, 0-5).


Winters Mill 23, Liberty 16

Recap: At Westminster, the Falcons (4-2, 3-2 county) out-slugged the Lions behind seven RBIs and a pair of home runs from Grant Bradt. The rivals combined for 37 hits. Conner Peters had four hits for WM. Mike Spitz led Liberty (3-4, 3-2) with four hits, four RBIs, and a homer, and Michael Parris went deep as well.

Westminster 15, Man Valley 4

Recap: At Manchester, the Owls (4-1, 3-1 county) got four hits and a three-run homer from Billy Scanlon. Aaron Golberg struck out eight in 6 1/3 innings for Westminster. Matt Myers had three hits for the Mavs (1-4, 0-3).

Recap: At New Market, Abbey Behn scored five goals and added six assists to help the Cavaliers remain undefeated in six starts this season. Kennedy Evans notched two goals and assists apiece and Julia Weiss made six saves in goal for the Cavs (6-0).


Gerstell 20, Sidwell Friends 10

Recap: At Washington D.C., Emily Fenwick and Jillian Wilson led the Falcons with five goals apiece. Haley Gochnauer chipped in four goals and six assists. Katie Pettine and Wilson helped win 19 draws for the Falcons (3-4).

Recap: At Eldersburg, the Lions (7-0, 7-0 county) swept and got a No. 3 doubles win from Taylor Mendoza and Jayden Stroup. WM is 1-5, 1-5.

Recap: At Westminster, Nick Cook and Brett Farquahrson won 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 at No. 2 doubles for the Owls (4-2, 4-2 county). MV is 3-4, 2-4.

Recap: At Eldersburg, Danny Arriola won at No. 2 singles and the Knights (5-1, 5-1 county) won all three doubles matches. Derrick Warehime won at first singles for Key (2-5, 1-5).
