Century needed three doubles wins, one of which went to three sets, in order to post a 3-2 victory over host Manchester Valley in Carroll County Athletic League boys tennis action Saturday.

Brennan Deibel and Luke Tolley nipped MV’s Andrew Barth and Andy York 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (9) at No. 3 doubles, and the Knights improved to 5-1, 5-0 in the CCAL.Nick Simon and Mason Motter won at No. 2 doubles, and Kyke Kropfelder and Danny Arriola took the first doubles win.


Matthew Fairchild (6-0, 6-1) and Chase Estes (6-0, 6-1) cruised in their singles matches for the Mavericks (4-2, 3-2).

Century 3, Manchester Valley 2

Recap: At Manchester, the Knights (4-2, 4-1 CCAL) won all three doubles matches. Century was without two starters, who were on college visits, but prevailed behind a No. 2 doubles win from Maddie Keffer and Danielle Delawter. Landyn Bien and Naya Wagner won the singles matches for the Mavs (2-4, 1-4).

Century goes 2-0 at Catonsville

Recap: At Catonsville, the Knights topped Bel Air 19-13 and beat the host Comets 18-14 to improve to 6-1. Grace Bruce scored six goals against Bel Air, and Demma Hall had five goals and three assists. Bruce and Hall had five goals apiece in the Catonsville game, and Hall handed out five assists. She also won seven draw controls.


Westminster 13, Franklin 3

Recap: At Westminster, Jake Sell went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, and two RBIs for the Owls (3-4). Ryan Clatterbuck homered and drove in three runs, and Zach Kraft went six innings.


Westminster 21, Franklin 0

Recap: At Westminster, the Owls (5-2) avenged Friday’s loss to South Carroll in a big way. Laura Tipton crushed a grand slam to dead center field in the win, and got the victory as the pitcher.
