Carroll Varsity Roundup (April 5): South Carroll softball rallies for big county win over Westminster

Hailey Wolfrey had two hits and two RBIs, and Stephanie Zirkenbach had a bases-clearing triple to lift South Carroll past host Westminster 13-3 in five innings in Carroll County Athletic League softball action Friday afternoon.

The Cavaliers (2-4, 2-3 CCAL) trailed early but scored 11 runs in the fifth and pulled away after Zirkenbach’s big hit. Hannah Herche had three hits and two RBIs, and pitched for the win as well. Jackie Coyle and Laura Lipton each had doubles, and Emily Sicinski hit a triple for the Owls (4-2, 3-1).


Liberty 12, Century 2

Recap: At Eldersburg, the visiting Lions (2-5, 2-3 CCAL) got doubles from Amanda Cyran and Peyton McCain. The Knights fell to 3-5, 3-3.


Century 5, Liberty 1

Recap: At Eldersburg, Matt Born earned the win for the host Knights (6-2, 5-1 CCAL). Paul Libbee had an RBI for Liberty (4-3, 3-2).

Girls Lacrosse

Liberty 14, Franklin 13

Recap: At Reisterstown, the Lions (5-0) rallied from a three-goal deficit in the second half, and Meghan Huey scored the game-winner with about 3 minutes to play. Morgan Sutherland had four goals while Val Thompson and Alanna Wray had three apiece.

Middletown 18, Winters Mill 4

Recap: At Middletown, Reilly Lockwood made eight saves for the Falcons (2-2).

Boys Lacrosse

Century 17, Francis Scott Key 3

Recap: At Eldersburg on Thursday, Matt Daniel and Carter Truby had four goals apiece for the Knights (5-0, 2-0 CCAL). Trace Shifflett, Cole LaPierre, and Bobby Sylves had goals for the Eagles (0-4, 0-3).

Boys Basketball

Carroll has 3 players in Md. vs. Pa. all-star game

Westminster’s Drue Giles and Joe Wright, and Liberty’s Tristan Kent, are set to be teammates in a Maryland vs. Pennsylvania senior all-star basketball game Saturday night at 8:30 at Harrisburg Christian High School. Westminster assistant coach Jeremy Snyder is the head coach for the Maryland all-star squad.

Kent earned Times Player of the Year for a second consecutive season, and Giles joined him on the all-county first team. Wright was a second-team all-county pick.
