Carroll Varsity Roundup (April 3): Born's blast boosts Century baseball to 4th straight win

Matt Born went 4-for-4 and had four RBIs, including a home run, in leading Century to a 16-0 victory over host Winters Mill in Carroll County Athletic League baseball action Wednesday in Westminster.

Brandon Will also homered and drove in three runs for the Knights (5-2, 4-1 CCAL), who won their fourth game in a row and ended the game in five innings. Josh Popielski had three strikeouts for Winters Mill (0-5, 0-3).


Liberty 17, Francis Scott Key 3

Recap: At Eldersburg, Garrett Geidel had three hits and five RBIs for the Lions (4-1, 3-1 CCAL) and Jack Bulakites scored four runs. Key fell to 0-4, 0-4.


C. Milton Wright 18, Westminster 8

Recap: At Bel Air, Cory Moran went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a homer, and drove in three runs for the Owls (1-4).


Century 12, Winters Mill 2

Recap: At Westminster, Cayanne Hogan went 5-for-6 and Arianna Diaz had three hits and a double for the Knights (3-4, 3-2 CCAL). Liz Chaney doubled for the Falcons.


Liberty 14, Francis Scott Key 4

Recap: At Eldersburg, Jordan Nastos had a double, triple, and a homer for the Lions (1-5, 1-3 CCAL), while Emily Smith added a triple. Morgan May tripled for the Eagles (2-3, 1-3).

C. Milton Wright 16, Westminster 12

Recap: At Bel Air, the Owls (3-2) led 11-3 in the fifth inning, but the Mustangs scored eight runs and pulled in front for good. Laura Tipton went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs, and Lexi Smith added three hits.

Recap: At Manchester on Tuesday, Grant Boerner had four goals and Garrett Deltuva netted three for the Mavericks (3-1). Owen McCallum handed out seven assists.

Recap: At Eldersburg, Kyle Kropfelder and Danny Arriola won in three sets at No. 2 doubles for the Knights (4-1, 4-0 CCAL). Matheo Cuenca and Chase Burker won singles points for WM (3-2, 2-2).

Recap: At Westminster, the Mavs got gold medals from Kacy Montgomery (100, 400), Sean Bradley (800), John Saurusaitis (110 hurdles), Deshaun Bing (300 hurdles), Evan Bare (shot), Josh Gerber (high jump), and Colin Evans (triple jump). The Owls won the 4x100, 4x200, and 4x800 relays.

Recap: At Ijamsville, the Knights got wins from Cooper Neal (pole vault), Cole Gladden (triple jump), and Brian Crenshaw (100, 200).

Recap: At Westminster, SC’s Madelyn Boyce won the 400, Zelda Hirsch won the 100 hurdles, Brooke Flanigan took the high jump, and Megan Plummer the discus. Hannah Dintino won the 100 and 200 for the Owls, MV’s Rubie Goffena won the 1,600 and 3,200, and Liberty’s Abigail Potter won the long and triple jumps.
