Carroll Varsity Roundup (April 1): Warren, Mendez combine for six RBIs in Westminster's first win of season

Riley Warren had three hits, including the go-ahead home run in the fifth inning, and host Westminster got past city rival Winters Mill 11-6 in Carroll County Athletic League baseball action Monday.

Warren and Marcos Mendez each had three RBIs for the Owls, who won their first game of the season (1-3, 1-1 CCAL). Nathan Barber threw three scoreless innings and struck out five for the win.

South Carroll 8, Francis Scott Key 2

Recap: At Winfield, Blake Etzel threw five innings for the win and Joe Westbrook collected a double and triple for the Cavaliers (4-1, 3-1 CCAL). Kyle Williams doubled for the Eagles (0-2, 0-2).

Century 9, McDonogh 8

Recap: At Eldersburg, Connor Breitenbach’s RBI single in the seventh inning won it for the Knights (3-2). Brandon Will belted a grand slam and Joe Rekus added a two-run shot.

Manchester Valley 6, Linganore 2

Recap: At New Market, Ty Morris went 6 2/3 innings and struck out eight for the Mavericks (2-2). Dalton Groupp had three hits and Kyle Scott had two RBIs.

Recap: At Glen Burnie, Jinwoo An had a triple and three hits for the Patriots (3-1). Josiah Albaugh had two RBIs and Noah Reynolds posted a double.

Recap: At Westminster, Jackie Coyle went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and Lexi Smith posted a triple for the unbeaten Owls (4-0, 3-0 CCAL). Ansley Annable had three hits for the Falcons (0-2, 0-1).

Recap: At Owings Mills, Cayanne Hogan had a double for the Knights (1-4).

Recap: At Westminster, the host Falcons (2-1, 1-1 CCAL) swept the doubles matches, led by No. 1 Matt Inglis and Brian Inglis. Aaron Sorkin and Kyle Fronheiser won singles matches for the Owls (1-4, 1-4).

Recap: At Uniontown, the Eagles enjoyed their first win (1-3, 1-3 CCAL) behind singles wins from Justin Rieger and Grant Johnson. Zach McDonovan and Mason Huntermeister won No. 3 doubles for the Cavs (0-5, 0-3).

Recap: At Eldersburg, Alanna Wray led the Lions (3-0) with six goals and Leah Faunce netted four. Val Thompson scored three times.
