Carroll Varsity Roundup (March 29): Liberty baseball blasts Westminster in Carroll County Athletic League play

Liberty’s baseball team posted an 11-1 Carroll County Athletic League victory over Westminster on Friday afternoon in Eldersburg.

Paul Libbee had two hits, two RBIs, two walks, and two stolen bases for the Lions (3-0, 2-0 CCAL). Austin Massey chipped in with a home run, while pitcher Peyton Scheufele collected nine strikeouts in five innings. Haden Hoff smacked a triple for the Owls (0-2, 0-2).


South Carroll 4, Century 3

Recap: At Winfield, Alex Hess was 2-for-2 with a two-run homer for the Cavaliers (3-1, 2-1 CCAL). Aidan Greaney also hit a two-run shot, and JD Berry earned the win. Century is 1-2, 1-1.


Springdale Prep 6, Carroll Christian 2

Recap: At Westminster, the Lions had three runs in the seventh to pull away from the Patriots (2-1). Danny Blair and Shane Boylan each had doubles for Carroll.

Thomas Johnson 6, Manchester Valley 5

Recap: At Manchester, the Patriots came up with four runs in the seventh to clip the Mavericks (1-1) in a rematch of last year’s 3A West final. Man Valley had a 5-1 lead in the fifth, and Matt Myers struck out two batters in five innings.


Catonsville 6, Winters Mill 5

Recap: At Catonsville, Spencer Monroe had two RBIs for the Falcons (0-3), while Alex Barnes and Slater Seitz had two hits each. The Comets needed a run in the sixth to earn the win.

Mount Carmel 5, Gerstell 1

Recap: At Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, Reece Early struck out 10 in five shutout innings before Mt. Carmel broke through and topped the Falcons (1-2, 1-2 MIAA B). Max Friedman had two hits and a stolen base for Gerstell.


Westminster 18, Liberty 7

Recap: At Eldersburg, the Owls improved to 2-0 (2-0 CCAL) behind a pair of homers from Jackie Coyle. Alyssa Dixon added a triple, and Laura Tipton struck out five. Jordan Nastos homered for the Lions (0-3, 0-2).

Century 12, South Carroll 8

Recap: At Eldersburg, Emily Kain went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI for the Knights (1-2). Megan Hollander added a double and an RBI. The Cavaliers fell to 1-2, 1-1.

Manchester Valley 7, Thomas Johnson 6

Recap: At Manchester, Jenna Miller launched a home run for the Mavericks (2-1), who won the game in the seventh inning.

Francis Scott Key 15, Hereford 4

Recap: At Parkton, the Eagles (1-1) rolled thanks to three hits apiece from Morgan May, Gabby Archie, Jodi Staub, Alyssa Boyer, and Laura Gilford. Key collected 17 hits in the rout.

Recap: At Westminster, the Owls (2-0) won their county opener. Box score information for Westminster wasn’t reported. Nick Hinton had three goals for the Lions (1-2, 0-1) and Roberto Ortiz won 15 face-offs.

Manchester Valley 12, Francis Scott Key 6

Recap: At Uniontown on Thursday, Grant Boerner had five goals to pace the Mavericks (2-1, 1-1 CCAL). MV’s Cody Upman had two goals and two assists. Trace Shifflett had three goals and Keith LaPierre made 18 saves for FSK (0-3, 0-2).

Recap: At Eldersburg, Grace Bruce and Tina Haspert had four goals apiece for the Knights (3-1). Demma Hall handed out four assists and Maddie Bates had three. Kennedy Major’s three goals led Gerstell (0-5).

Recap: At Westminster, Dylan Gettier and Ray Woodward won No. 1 doubles for the unbeaten Lions (3-0, 3-0 CCAL). Adam Long and Evan Warren won at third doubles in three sets for the Owls (1-3, 1-3).
