Century junior midfielder Brett Kropinksi chats with us post-game.
Brett Kropinski took a pass from one of his Century teammates and carefully timed his crash point. Two Gerstell defenders tried to keep him at bay, but the junior midfielder would have none of it.
Kropinski fired a shot past the Falcons' goalie with just over a minute into the overtime period and was immediately swarmed by his teammates in a corner of the field. Tensions ran high on the turf at Gerstell on Tuesday, but the Knights prevailed in a 12-11 victory.
Jalen Stanton, a junior, scored four of the Knights' five goals that left Gerstell scoreless at the end of the first quarter. The Falcons pushed back with help from Mike Ippolito (four goals, two assists) and Seth Higgins (three goals, six assists).
The Falcons led 8-7 with 3:50 remaining in the third quarter when a brawl on the field ensued that resulted in two player ejections for both teams. Century and Gerstell went goal-for-goal in the final quarter and were tied 11-11 with 5:25 left.
Kropinski netted a goal with one-tenth of a second on the clock to send the game into overtime.
"Especially with us not having much time, being able to get that shot off and only having five seconds to be able to get that, that's a next-level move," Knights coach Jeremy Benson said. "He's new at middie so that was a very impressive goal."
