Carroll Varsity Roundup (March 27): Century boys lacrosse pulls away from Manchester Valley in CCAL opener

Century’s boys lacrosse team led Manchester Valley by one goal at halftime, but the Knights outscored the Mavericks 8-2 to pull away for an 11-4 victory in Carroll County Athletic League play on Wednesday in Manchester.

Matt Daniel led the Knights (2-0, 1-0 county) with four goals and Jalen Stanton and Julian Schemm notched three apiece. Carter Truby added two assists.

Owen McCallum led the Mavericks (1-1, 0-1) with one goal and two assists. Ben Barnes totaled 13 saves.

Patterson Mill 9, Liberty 7

Recap: At Bel Air, the Lions (1-2) fell short but Eli Carpenter made 12 saves and Justin Bartolowits won 10 face-offs. Liberty collected 35 ground balls.

Girls Lacrosse

Liberty 15, Walkersville 8

Recap: At Eldersburg, the Lions (2-0) finished off their game from last week. Alanna Wray and Emily Van Reenan had four goals apiece.

Recap: At Eldersburg, Jack Merchak had nine strikeouts in five innings for the Lions (2-0, 1-0 county). Garrett Geidel had a home run, a triple, and three RBIs for the Lions. Nick Trey had two hits and a double for the Cavs (2-1, 1-1).

Recap: At Westminster, the Falcons fell to 0-2 despite a double and two hits from Alex Barnes, and RBIs from Grant Bradt and Josh Popielski.

South Carroll 10, Liberty 6

Recap: At Eldersburg, the Cavaliers (1-1, 1-0 county) got three hits apiece from Sydni Carroll and Olivia Reardon,and both players tripled. Jordan Nastos hit a solo homer for the Lions (0-2, 0-1) and Amy Jacobs collected two doubles.

Recap: At Eldersburg, Andrew Sien won at No. 2 singles for the Knights (2-0, 2-0 county), who won all three doubles matches. Aaron Sorkin won at first singles for the Owls (0-2, 0-2).

Liberty 4, South Carroll 1

Recap: At Winfield, the Lions (2-0, 2-0 county) swept the doubles matches and extended their winning streak to 37 in a row. Tyger Zan won at first singles, while Gavin Baker won No. 2 singles for the Cavs (0-2, 0-1).

Man Valley 5, Francis Scott Key 0

Recap: At Manchester, Matt Fairchild won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and the Mavericks improved to 2-0 (2-0 county). FSK dropped to 0-2, 0-2.

Recap: At Eldersburg, Maddie Keffer and Danielle Delawter (6-3, 7-5) were part of a doubles sweep for the Knights (2-0, 2-0). Kate Ruppert and Jennifer Sorkin won the singles matches for Westminster (1-1, 1-1).

Recap: At Winfield, Emily Brecker and Noelle Htwar won at No. 1 doubles and the Lions improved to 2-0 (2-0 county) with their 65th consecutive victory. Julia Simoncini and Rachel Linn won at No. 3 doubles for SC (1-1, 0-1).

Man Valley 5, Francis Scott Key 0

Recap: At Manchester, the Mavericks (1-1, 1-1 county) won all five matches in straight sets. Key fell to 0-2, 0-2.

JV Boys Lacrosse
