Carroll Varsity Roundup (March 22): Defense carries Century boys lacrosse to victory in season opener

Century’s boys lacrosse team put together a strong defensive effort in beating Franklin 4-2 to win its season opener Friday afternoon in Reisterstown.

Brett Kropinski had two goals and one assist, while Jalen Stanton and Colin McAuliffe had one goal apiece. Alex Kristian collected five ground balls and four caused turnovers, and Charlie Hackett had seven ground balls. Adam Zimmerman made six saves.


Winters Mill 8, Eastern Tech 1

Recap: At Essex, the Falcons opened their season with a convincing win thanks to four goals and one assist from Kaden Ross. Zach Urban added two assists for WM.


South Carroll 19, North Hagerstown 3

Recap: At Western Regional Park, six different players scored for the Cavaliers in their opener. Adam McCarty had five goals and two assists.

Liberty 15, Walkersville 7

Recap: At Walkersville, the Lions won their opener behind four goals from Steven Talbot and three each from Nick Hinton, Hunter Rask, and Jesse Jason. Chris Darminio handed out three assists.

Recap: at Catonsville on Thursday, the Mavericks prevailed when Cody Upman netted the game-winner in double overtime. Man Valley trailed 8-5 after three quarters.

South Carroll 18, North Hagerstown 1

Recap: At Hagerstown, Riley Evans netted four goals and Abbey Behn had five assists. Julia Weiss made seven saves.

Catonsville 11, Manchester Valley 6

Recap: At Catonsville on Thursday, Mia Alvarez had four goals and Brynn Knight made 14 saves for the Mavs in their opener.

Boys Tennis

Manchester Valley 4, Westminster 1

Recap: At Westminster, Chase Estes’ 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles helped MV take its opener. Adam Long and Evan Warren won at third doubles for the Owls.


Girls Tennis

Westminster 3, Manchester Valley 2

Recap: At Westminster, Kate Ruppert and Jennifer Sorkin won the singles matches for the Owls. Man Valley’s Libby Harford and Hailey Swisher won at No. 3 doubles (5-7, 7-5, 10-8).
