Carroll Varsity Roundup (Feb. 13): Thiem leads Liberty past Man Valley in CCAL girls hoops clash

Rachel Thiem scored a game-high 24 points to lead Liberty past host Manchester Valley 53-41 on Wednesday in Carroll County Athletic League girls basketball action.

Jordan Nastos added six points for the Lions, who improved to 8-11 (5-5 in the CCAL). Liberty has won five of its last eight games.

Josey Klingenberg had 12 points and eight steals for the Mavericks (6-11, 2-8), while Amelia Saunders collected 11 points, six rebounds, and four steals. Tessa Boswell netted nine points, and Erin Piper grabbed seven rebounds.

JV result: MV won.

Century 58, Fallston 56

Recap: At Fallston, Demma Hall scored off the glass with 3 seconds to play and the Knights (5-14) prevailed for the second time in three games. Hall led with 14 points and Jess Diorio posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Eva Brandt grabbed nine boards and had seven blocks.

JV result: Fallston, 38-22 (C-Emma Gordon 6 points).

Frederick 66, South Carroll 19

Recap: At Frederick, Olivia Reardon led the Cavaliers (8-10) with six points.

Century 82, Silver Oak Academy 45

Recap: At Eldersburg, the Knights improved to 15-3 with their seventh win in a row. Carter Truby had a team-high 15 points, while Matt Daniel and Jacob Diehl each scored 11. Matt Huber had nine rebounds, and Truby grabbed eight. Malik Cisse led Silver Oak with 15 points.

Frederick 68, South Carroll 55

Record: At Winfield, the Cavs fell to 7-11. No box score information was reported.
