Winters Mill jumped out to a 19-3 lead against visiting Century in Carroll County Athletic League girls basketball action Tuesday night, and the Falcons turned the hot start into a 50-39 victory in Westminster.
Kolby Brown led the Falcons (11-8, 6-5 county) with 14 points and six rebounds, and Hannah Stitely added nine points and five assists. Erin Snyder also grabbed six rebounds.
Kelsey Weishaar had 10 points and Jess Diorio netted nine for the Knights (5-13, 2-9).
Recap: At Winfield, the Mavericks (14-3, 9-2 county) led by two points at the half but pulled away in the fourth quarter. Mackenzie DeWees finished with 27 points and Josey Klingenberg scored 11. Erin Piper hauled in nine rebounds. Riley Evans had nine points and Lilly Cooper five for the Cavaliers (10-9, 7-4).
JV result: SC, 32-31.
Liberty 55, Francis Scott Key 47
Recap: At Eldersburg, Rachel Thiem had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Alex Bull totaled 14 points, eight steals, and seven assists, and the Lions notched their first county win of the winter (2-17, 1-9 county). Karla Stonesifer’s 11 points paced the Eagles (4-13, 2-9).
JV result: FSK won.
Liberty 70, Francis Scott Key 42
Recap: At Uniontown, the Lions had six players in double figures and rolled to their sixth straight win. Peyton Scheufele had 12 points and Tristan Kent had 11, as did Jack Selby. Amir Cole finished with 19 points and Josh Brown added 10 for Key (7-12, 5-6).
