Westminster and Francis Scott Key found themselves tied up with two minutes to play in Tuesday’s county boys basketball game, and the Owls came up with some big plays down the stretch to prevailed 54-51 in Westminster.
A Drue Giles free throw put the home team ahead 51-50 and Key couldn’t come up with the equalizer. Giles finished with 15 points and three steals.
Shawn Blaney totaled 20 points, seven rebounds, and four assists for Westminster (9-6, 5-3 county), which won its third in four games. Joe Wright added 12 points.
Amir Cole scored 18 points and Josh Brown added 15 for the Eagles, who fell to 6-8, 4-4.
Recap: At Eldersburg, the Knights (11-4, 5-3 county) won their fifth in seven games behind 17 points from Jared Lamb and 14 from Azariah Knox. Lamb added seven rebounds. Bo Schene scored 21 for the Mavericks (4-11, 1-6).
Recap: At Manchester, Mackenzie DeWees had 19 points and 10 steals with six rebounds and three assists in limited time fo the Mavericks (10-3, 5-2 county). Josey Klingenberg scored 12 points and added five rebounds and four steals, and Amelia Saunders scored six. Kelsey Weishaar led the Knights (5-10, 2-5) with 10 points.

South Carroll 42, Winters Mill 41
Recap: At Westminster, it came down to the final possession once again with these rivals, and this time the Cavaliers (7-8, 4-3 county) prevailed. Lauren Habighorst led SC with 13 points, and Bethany Fowler and Ashleigh Zeep each had eight. Erin Snyder had 13 points for the Falcons (7-5, 3-3), Addi Hill scored nine and Kolby Brown added eight. Hill had eight rebounds.
JV result: WM, 40-32 (WM-Allie Cullison 12, Madison Harmening 11).
Winters Mill 1-1 in tri-meet
Recap: At Hereford, the Falcons suffered their first duals loss of the season when Owings Mills prevailed 45-29. Winters Mill (15-1) beat the host Bulls 43-28. Trevor Fawley (170) and Hunter Lowe (195) each went 2-0 with two pins for WM.
Recap: At Bel Air, the Mavericks (25-8) defeated North Harford 72-12 and fell to the host Bobcats 36-27. Tom Chenoweth, Kyle Mathias, and Troy Warner each went 2-0 with two pins for MV. The Mavs lost to Marriotts Ridge 39-36 on Monday despite pins from Heathe Hernandez, Liam Pence, Chad Shaffer, Adam Mattson, Mathias, and Warner.
