Carroll Varsity Roundup (Jan. 22): South Carroll girls clip Winters Mill in overtime

South Carroll rose above the .500 mark in the Carroll County Athletic League girls basketball standings Tuesday night, and the Cavaliers did it in overtime by defeating Winters Mill 53-51 in Winfield.

Bethany Fowler scored 13 points to pace the Cavs (7-7, 4-3 CCAL) and Ashleigh Zepp netted nine. Erin Snyder finished with 20 points for the Falcons (6-6, 5-3).


JV result: WM, 52-46 (SC-Sarah Vaught 15 points, 17 rebounds).

Liberty 42, Bel Air 36

Recap: At Eldersburg, Christine Goetz pulled down 16 rebounds for the Lions (5-9), who won for the third time in four games. Alex Bull had 14 rebounds and six assists.

JV result: Liberty, 50-33 (Emily Vanreenan 22 points).

Boys Basketball

Century 58, Manchester Valley 41

Recap: At Manchester, Carter Truby led the Knights (11-3, 7-1 CCAL) with 21 points and Jared Lamb scored 16. Dayne Koontz had a team-high 15 for the Mavericks (3-11, 2-5).

JV result: Century, 45-40 (Nick Prokic 10; MV-Zach Bowen 18).

Recap: At Westminster, Carson Scott had 21 points and Dylan Graham netted 14 for the Cavs (6-8, 4-3). Chandler Gentzel posted a double-double for the Falcons (2-12, 0-7) with 25 points and 11 rebounds, while Alan Jean Joseph scored 11.

JV result: SC won.

Carroll Christian 68, Frederick Warriors 47

Recap: At Westminster, Matt Maldonado poured in 19 points and Sean Goldsmith scored 12 for the Patriots (10-8).

Gerstell 52, Indian Creek 44

Recap: At Crownsville, Tyler Tillery had 10 points and 10 rebounds to pace the Falcons (13-9, 7-1 MIAA B Conference).



Francis Scott Key 45, Century 28

Recap: At Eldersburg, the Eagles (2-15, 1-4 CCAL) notched their first county win behind pins from Sam Kinloch (160) and Guanxi Chen (195). Nathan Perry (145) had a tech fall for FSK. Century is 5-20, 0-4.

Liberty 1-1 in tri-meet

Recap: At New Market on Monday, the Lions (20-7) earned a split by beating Middletown 37-36 and losing to host Linganore 45-23. Liberty clipped the Knights thanks to a pin from Max Ellis in the final bout of that match. Going 2-0 were Ryan Ohler, Jacob Gaskin, Anthony Marsico, and Braden Puller.
