Manchester Valley took part in the Kenwood Duals wrestling tournament over the weekend in Essex, and the Mavericks finished 8-1 for a third-place showing.

Man Valley fell to Archbishop Curley in the semifinals, 39-37, but won the third-place match against the host Blue Jays 63-18.

The Mavericks had four wrestlers post 9-0 records — Heathe Hernandez (120 pounds), Chad Schaffer (138), Thomas Chenoweth (152), and Grant Warner (182).

Hunter Green (132) and Adam Mattson (160) each went 8-1, and Nate Renfro (220) finished 7-1. Robert Brown (126) and Brayden Safely (145) each went 7-2 for MV.

The Mavs beat Chopticon, Pikesville, Kenwood, Duval, Poly, Dulaney, and Walter Johnson to reach the semifinal round.

Recap: At Burtonsville, the Cavaliers totaled 145.5 points over the weekend and had one individual champion in Steven Dahl (152). Jake Rippeon (126) and Antonio Bradford (160) each placed second, while Ryan Athey (106), Anthony Bond (113), Cam Werner (138), and Pat Quinn (285) came in third.

South River won the tournament title with 230 points, and Old Mill was second with 165.
