Local Roundup (Jan. 18): Big first day at Kenwood Duals for Manchester Valley wrestling team

Manchester Valley’s wrestling team went 4-0 on Day 1 of the Best of the Nest duals tournament Friday at Kenwood High School.
The Mavericks improved to 27-1 in duals and posted wins over Chopticon (68-3), Dulaney (70-9), Lackey (68-9), and Churchill (47-21). Adam Mattson (170 pounds) earned his 100th career win with a pin in the Churchill match.
Day 2 was set for Saturday, but was postponed and reset for Feb. 1. Man Valley visits South Carroll on Wednesday.
Carroll Christian 46, Granite 29
Highlight: On Friday, Sydney Wooden posted a triple-double and reached 1,000 career points for the Patriots (8-3). Wooden finished with 14 points, 14 rebounds, 10 assists, and four steals. Camielle Echegoyen added 12 points and eight boards.
Highlights: On Friday, the Owls (9-4, 5-1 Carroll County Athletic League) got 16 points from Maddie Olexy and 12 from Lillian Harris. Meghan Ruth grabbed nine rebounds and Olexy had seven, and Abby Kindle also scored 12. Allie Cullison netted 12 points for the Falcons (4-8, 3-3) and Madison Harmening had seven.
Carroll Christian 71, Granite 63
Highlights: On Friday, five players had between 9-13 points for the Pats (8-7), who scored 29 fourth-quarter points. Josiah Albaugh and Reggie Tinsley led Carroll with 13 points apiece, and Sean Goldsmith scored 12.
Highlights: On Friday, Mallory Conroy posted a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Green Terror (6-8, 3-7 Centennial Conference). All 16 of McDaniel’s players saw action, and 14 of them scored. The Terror host Dickinson on Wednesday night at 6.
