Carroll Varsity Roundup (Jan. 17): South Carroll girls basketball clips FSK for another Carroll County victory

South Carroll outscored Francis Scott Key by 18 points in the third quarter to help erase a 14-point halftime deficit and beat the Eagles 41-37 in Carroll County Athletic League girls basketball action Friday night in Winfield.

The Cavaliers (4-10, 3-3 CCAL) won their third game in a row behind eight points apiece from Grace Oetken and Lauren Habighorst. Shannon McTavish added six for sc. Ally Mathias scored a game-high 13 points for FSK (2-11, 1-5), who led 30-16 at the break.


Boys Basketball

Westminster 48, Winters Mill 37

Highlights: The Owls (10-2, 5-0 CCAL) stayed perfect in county play and used a fourth-quarter run to get past their city rivals. Nico Graham had 15 points and seven rebounds, and Erick Stranko added nine points and three steals. Jack Mitzelfelt led WM (1-12, 0-6) with nine points.

JV result: Westminster won Thursday.

Francis Scott Key 60, South Carroll 53

Highlights: The host Eagles (4-9, 3-3 CCAL) overcame an eight-point second-quarter deficit, and Travis Williams scored 15. Cam Brooks added 10 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists. Luke Anderson netted a game-high 17 points for the Cavaliers (1-12, 1-5) and Karson Pavlik scored 16.

Linganore 89, Man Valley 54

Highlights: Connor Rugguri paced the Mavericks (5-7) with 11 points.

Carroll Christian 68, Arlington 40

Highlights: On Thursday, Josiah Albaugh scored 17 points and the Patriots improved to 7-7. Tavon Myers had nine points, and Reggie Tinsley added eight points and eight rebounds.
