Sophomore Jack Heefner took first place in the 55- and 300-meter dash and helped Westminster’s boys indoor track team to a tri-meet win Saturday at Century High School in Eldersburg.
The Owls totaled 57 and the host Knights were second with 40, while Francis Scott Key took third with 34. Anders Madsen won the 800 run, Wyatt Vanlandingham took the 3,200, Cameron Rucker won the 55 hurdles, and Justin Condon took the high jump. The Owls’ 4x800 relay also finished first.
Century got wins from Ryan Von Stein (1,600 run), Matthew Williams (pole vault), and its 4x200 and 4x400 relays. FSK earned golds from Jeshua Jersualem (500) and Michael Baldwin (shot put).
Liberty 98, South Carroll 75, Man Valley 14, Winters Mill 4
Highlights: The Lions received wins from Jordan DeVincent (55 dash), Jesse Jason (300), Cameron Grier (500), Seth Lassiter (800), Spencer Hope (1,600), Trent Taylor (3,200), and Mason Breeze (shot put). Liberty also won the 4x200 and 4x800 relay. The Cavaliers won the 4x400 relay and picked up golds from Joseph Zolkiewicz (55 hurdles), Dillon Zanin (high jump), and Peyton Thomas (pole vault).
Girls Indoor Track
Century 60, Westminster 30, FSK 23 (12 events)
Highlights: The Knights got victories from Jasmine Stanton (55 dash), Hope Callaway (1,600), Elise Greenwald (3,200), Jane Brewer (55 hurdles), and their 4x200, 4x400, and 4x800 relay teams. Delaney O’Brien won the 500 and 800 for the Owls, while Key’s Laura Gilford won the 300 and high jump. Elizabeth Mahoney won the shot for the Eagles.
South Carroll 93.5, Man Valley 50, Liberty 26.5, Winters Mill 1
Highlights: The Cavs got golds from Abigail John (55), Brooke Pribulick (300), Morgan Guynn (500), Molly Senisi (1,600), Zelda Hirsch (pole vault), and Kyndall Yeager (shot). SC also won the 4x200, 4x400, and 4x800 relays. MV’s Lauren Franchino (55 hurdles), Taylor Shank (800), Rubie Goffena (3,200), and Carrie Moore (high jump) placed first.
Boys Basketball
Francis Scott Key 61, Man Valley 60
Highlights: On Friday, Travis Williams sank a clutch 3 from the corner to give FSK a 4-point lead with 14 seconds remaining before MV’s Zach Bowen danned a long-range 3 to put the Mavericks within one. Key (2-1, 2-1 CCAL) held on in the final ticks, led by Ryan Rill’s 28 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks. Jaeden Heiser added seven assists and three steals. Ja’Quan Dukes scored 18 points to pace the Mavericks (0-3, 0-3).
