Carroll Varsity Roundup (Jan. 8): Liberty boys stay unbeaten, topple Francis Scott Key

Tristan Kent posted another double-double, with 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Liberty took care of Francis Scott Key 59-48 in Carroll County Athletic League boys basketball action Tuesday in Uniontown.

Jack Merchak had 15 points, three assists, and three steals for the Lions (9-0, 3-0 CCAL). Peyton Scheufele added 10 rebounds, and Cam Blankenship scored 10 points.


Liam McGrath led the Eagles (1-10, 0-6) with 16 points and Ryan Rill had 10 points to go with seven rebounds. Noah Vipond scored 13 for FSK.

Recap: At Westminster, the Falcons (5-4) ran their CCAL record to 4-1 thanks to 11 points from Madison Harmening and nine from Erin Snyder, who pulled down 10 rebounds. WM outscored the Knights 15-0 in the fourth quarter.

JV result: WM, 34-26 (WM-Veronica Paylor 8).

Francis Scott Key 62, Liberty 51

Recap: At Eldersburg, Bailey Mathias’ 17 points paced the Eagles (10-1, 5-0 CCAL) while Savannah Brooks and Karla Stonesifer had 16 apiece, Rachel Thiem led the Lions (2-8, 1-3) with a game-high 25.
