Carroll Varsity Roundup (Jan. 6): Barnes, Winters Mill tops Francis Scott Key in girls basketball

Sophia Barnes posted a double-double and led Winters Mill to a 53-38 victory over Francis Scott Key in Carroll County Athletic League girls basketball action Wednesday night.

Barnes finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Falcons, who gave new coach Olivia Bowersox a win in her debut. Allie Cullison added 12 points, and Cassidy Knill had seven rebounds and four steals.

Ally Mathias paced the Eagles with 19 points and 12 rebounds, and Katlyn Strohm netted 6 points.

South Carroll 46, Westminster 42

Highlights: Olivia Reardon led the Cavs with 13 points and Shannon McTavish scored 8. Jillian Pumputis had a game-high 20 points for the Owls, and Carlie Rosewag pulled down eight rebounds. Kylie McWilliams netted 8 points for Westminster.

South Carroll 56, Westminster 42

Highlights: The Cavaliers won their opener behind 13 points and 11 rebounds from Karson Pavlik. Tucker Eckert scored 10 and Chase Fowble had 9. Liam Long led the Owls with 12 points and Erick Stranko scored 11.

JV result: Westminster, 46-39.
