South Carroll’s wrestling started the new year with a pair of Carroll County Athletic League victories by sweeping a tri-meet Wednesday against Manchester Valley and Francis Scott Key.
The Cavaliers topped the Mavericks 36-30 before taking down the host Eagles 62-18 in Uniontown.
South Carroll improved to 5-2, 3-0 in the CCAL, and had seven wrestlers earn two wins apiece — Ryan Athey, Anthony Bond, Jake Rippeon, Cam Werner, Tyler Harbison, Steven Dahl, and Pat Quinn.
Man Valley (12-10, 2-1) beat Key 64-12 to earn the tri-meet split. Heathe Hernandez, Hunter Green, Adam Mattson, Grant Warner, Connor Livingston, and Nate Renfro all went 2-0 for MV.
Wyatte Johns went 2-0 for Francis Scott Key (1-13, 0-3).
Liberty goes 2-0 at tri-meet
Recap: At Westminster, the Lions edged Westminster 37-36 thanks to a major-decision victory from McClain Butler (170 pounds) in the final bout. Liberty (13-1, 2-0 CCAL) also defeated Glenelg Country School 66-12. The Lions got pins from Ryan Ohler and Daniel Bird in the win. They went 2-0, along with teammates Jacob Gaskin, Anthony Marsico, Samme Nehme, Butler, Max Ellis, and Noah Wienclawski.
Westminster (7-14, 0-3) rolled Glenelg Country 65-10 and had four grapplers go 2-0 — Ben Carlow, Tyler Beaver, Zach Caltrider, and Jack Conrad.

Century 66, South Carroll 46
Recap: At Eldersburg, Matt Huber led the Knights (6-2, 4-0 CCAL) with 18 points, while Justin Wunder scored 14 and Jacob Diehl had 10. The Cavs fell to 3-5, 1-2, despite 18 points from Dylan Graham. Carson Scott scored 13.
JV result: Century, 38-30 (C-Colby Owings 14 points; SC-Karson Pavlik 12).

Winters Mill 43, Manchester Valley 40
Recap: At Westminster, Erin Snyder paced the Falcons (3-4, 2-1 CCAL) with 12 points and eight rebounds, while Allie Cullison and Kolby Brown had eight points apiece. Josey Klingenberg scored a game-high 19 for the Mavericks (3-6, 1-3).
