When South Carroll won its program-first Class 2A West regional title in 2018, the Cavaliers held off Damascus by 17 points. The Cavs did the same this year, but in a much closer fashion.
South Carroll edged Damascus by one point to capture their second straight regional title at Hagerstown Community College on Saturday. The Cavs grabbed the lead for the first time after scoring 14 points in the 55-meter hurdles, thanks to second- and third-place finishes from Brooke Flanigan and Sarah Langille.
Senior Grace Fipps cleared 10 feet, 2 inches for the pole vault regional title and finished second in the 55-meter dash. Lexi Winkler took second in the 300 to qualify for states and ran legs on the Cavs’ 4x200 and 4x800 relay teams that took second and third in the region.
Century placed fourth with 63 points, Liberty was eighth with 25, and Winters Mill had 11.
Century’s boys finished second with 147 points in another close call with Oakdale, the regional champions with 151.5 points. The Bears won every relay and the Knights finished second in those events as well.
