Poulton, a Times first-team all-countian in 2016, will lead a team of young Knights this season. "With a young team, the girls look to see how new runners will contribute to the team's success," Mead said via email. "With a few freshmen showing promise, they plan on keeping their goals lofty."

Outlook: The Lions competed well last season without Lyons and Rinehart, their top two runners. The girls are back, relieved of their previous injuries and should even out another talented group this year. "While we lost some important varsity athletes and leadership, we hope to bring a few new runners along to get back to a winning season," Jones said via email. "Having Heidi and Maeve back healthy is a major step in the right direction, but we will need a few others to step up."

"We have a lot of depth with talented returning and new runners," Price said via email. "We are looking forward to a great season to repeat our success of the past few years and plan to build a strong team in the years to come."

McGrath, a junior and another all-countian, returns to help lead the Owls. "The girls lost quite a few seniors last year but return some very good runners with multiple years of varsity experience," DuLaney said via email.
