Winters Mill running back Glen Acha rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries to lead the Falcons to a 14-6 victory over visiting South Carroll on Thursday night.

"It's something we wanted to do all year: get our running backs going," Winters Mill coach Matt Miller said. "It was nice to go out there and control the ball. The last couple of weeks we played some good fronts."

Senior Troy Blessing gave Winters Mill (3-2) a 6-0 lead on the second play of the fourth quarter, scoring on a 2-yard run. Blessing was working behind an offensive line of Blake Billings, Alex Miller, Collin Smith, Dylan Steinwedel and Kyle Shanholtz.

Alex Carr booted the extra point.

South Carroll (1-4, 0-1) trimmed the lead to 7-6 with 6:20 remaining when Cole Evans found Matthew Gamble in the left corner of the end zone for a 15-yard touchdown.

But James Dytrt's extra-point try hit the right upright and didn't go through.

"I don't think he has kicked one like that in practice," South Carroll coach Steve Luette said. "It was just one of the those things."

Acha scored on a 3-yard run up the middle with 1:11 remaining to put Winters Mill ahead 13-6. Carr added the extra point.

Winters Mill linebacker Kevin Foster's interception with 1:10 remaining helped seal the win. The Falcons' Austin Plummer also had an interception.

Winters Mill rebounded following last week's 55-7 drubbing against Liberty, while South Carroll lost a bit of its momentum. The Cavaliers got their first win of the fall last week against Southern-Anne Arundel.
