Liberty's cheerleading squad took first place at the annual fall county competition held at Westminster High School on Saturday.

The Lions' routine earned a score of 119.15 from the judges, edging Westminster (119) for the team title. Francis Scott Key was third with 116.2 points.

Manchester Valley placed fourth (112.9), followed by Winters Mill (109.1), South Carroll (101.6), and Century (94.5).

The junior varsity competition also took place Saturday morning at Westminster and featured four Carroll schools, and Man Valley won the crown with 107.8 points.

Westminster was second with 106.9, Liberty took third with 99.6, and South Carroll was fourth with 95 points.

The county's varsity teams await to find out if their scores are good enough to advance to the state semifinals. The rest of the public school cheer events are scheduled to be completed by Thursday — 16 teams on the Class 2A-1A side advance to the semifinals, while 28 from the 4A-3A side move on.

State semifinals are Nov. 4 at Harford Community College, and the state championships are set for Nov. 11 back at HCC.
