The North Team that is set to compete in this year’s Brooks Robinson High School All-Star Game features a pair of outstanding pitchers from Carroll County.
The annual senior exhibition game’s latest matchup is scheduled for Sunday, June 2 at Camden Yards in Baltimore, following the Orioles’ game against San Francisco. Gerstell Academy’s Reece Early is one of four pitchers on the North team’s roster, and Century’s Jared Lamb earned an alternate spot as another pitcher.
Early led the Falcons (17-7) to their first Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association championship when they beat Boys’ Latin on May 20-21 in the B Conference finals. Early tossed a complete game with 12 strikeouts May 20, then came back the next day to record the final out in Gerstell’s 6-4 win over the Lakers.
Early, a preseason Maryland State Association of Baseball Coaches selection, went 5-2 with 95 strikeouts and a 1.19 ERA. At the plate, he batted .417 with seven doubles, five home runs, and 23 RBIs.
Early is headed to the US Naval Academy next year with plans to play baseball for the Midshipmen.
Lamb led Century to the Carroll County Athletic League championship this spring and a 15-5 record. His .560 batting average and seven homers led the county, and Lamb added 24 RBIs, three doubles, and two triples.
Lamb went 3-1 on the mound with a 2.56 ERA and 48 strikeouts. He combined on an eight-inning no-hitter April 15 against South Carroll by going seven innings and posting 11 strikeouts.
