Westminster boys lacrosse coach Steve DeFeo missed the team’s first game of the season and will be out for two more games because of a “personnel matter,” according to a Carroll County Public Schools spokesperson.
Chantress Baptist, director of human resources for CCPS, said DeFeo is permitted to return to the team Monday, April 1, but cannot coach the Owls in their next two scheduled games — March 29 at home against Liberty and March 30 at Damascus.
Inquiries to Westminster High School and county officials were directed to Baptist, who wouldn’t comment on the matter itself.
Westminster beat Mount St. Joseph 10-5 on March 26 at Ruby Field, and assistant coach Brandon Johnson filled DeFeo’s spot in that game. DeFeo led the Owls to an 18-1 record last season and the Class 3A state championship.
