Harry Griffith Sr. started a softball team for men ages 60 and older in 1994.

After playing in Howard County for one year, 1993, Griffith chose to skip the drive and create his own team. At that time, the Baltimore Beltway Softball League has five teams from Baltimore, Howard, and Montgomery counties.

Griffith got his team into the league after many phone calls and meetings to find a sponsor. Griffith’s Carroll County team became the sixth in the BBSL — 25 years later, the league has 22 teams.

The local team became Carroll Blue, and with an increase in participation a second team, Carroll Gray, was added.

Griffith was everything from manager to treasurer to historian, and he played for 19 years.

Junior Zepp now manages the Blue team, which will be a part of a 25-year celebration May 30 at Friendly Farm Restaurant for past and present players from both squads.
