The Maryland Hoopmasters 16-under boys basketball team won the NIT championship tournament at the Spooky Nook Court Warriors Tournament in early April.

Erik Stranko, Jayden Adams, and Mike Prozeller led the Hoopmasters in scoring throughout the weekend. Connor Levinson and Karson Pavlik were the leaders in rebounding in each of the games. Carson Snyder made several 3-pointers in each game to contribute.

Carroll Gymnastics posts strong finish

Carroll Gymnastics Level 8 team member Kyra Martindale qualified to compete at Regionals after earning a 35.075 in the all-around competition at the Maryland State Gymnastics Championships on March 23-24 in Landover.

Martindale finished third in the state on bars with a 9.500 placing her 10th overall in the state to earn her spot in the Region 7 competition, which includes the top gymnasts from Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. At regionals on April 5 in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, Martindale placed fifth in the region on bars with a 9.350 and finished with a 35.550 in the all-around competition.

Two other Carroll gymnasts placed at the Level 7 State Championships. Abby Wimmer was fifth on vault with an 8.800. Rheda Funk was seventh on bars with a 7.950, and seventh on beam with an 8.850. Other state qualifiers with a strong finish to the season were Level 7 teammates Tara Martindale and Samantha Wood, and Level 8 teammates Tara Hornung and Hannah Shipton.

The Level 7 and 8 teams are coached by Wendy Bloom, John Perna and Vladimir Korolev.
