Senior night at Skate Frederick was to honor the Carroll County hockey players who will finish this year as contenders for the state championship finals.

Going into the Maryland Student Hockey League finals last Friday against Frederick County, the Bears were 7-4-1, coached by Steve Tingley, Paul Finch, Rob Finks, and Tom Chase (JV).

The team’s seniors are Hunter Finks, Joseph Frantzen, Jack Perna, Joe Caprario, Elaina Cohen, and the team’s manager, Amy Carney.

Liberty High School is represented by seniors Hunter Finks and Joe Frantzen.

Hunter has been playing the game for 13 years with the Howard Huskies and he’s the captain of the Bears. He would like to continue to play at the highest possible level after graduation.

Joey has been playing for 10 years. He too plays for the Howard Huskies Club and Carroll. With his academic achievements, Frantzen is college bound.

Century’s Jack Perna is the team goalie, who began playing the summer of his freshman year. Jack has been associated with multiple co-pp leagues where a goalie was needed as well as with the Tri-City Eagles Club.

This is his second year playing goalie for Carroll County and he hopes to continue in junior and college hockey.

South Carroll is represented by Joseph Caprario. Influenced by his father, Joe has been playing for 10 years, with the Frederick Freeze and Carroll. He is a strong force as an offensive player as well as academically. James Madison and Salisbury State are on his radar.

Manchester Valley is represented by Caleb Ludwig. Caleb has been playing hockey since the age of 8, skating since he was 3. When not playing hockey, baseball is his game.

He plans on attending Lebanon Valley College in the fall, where he will major in accounting and play baseball.

Westminster’s Elaina Cohen has proudly succeeded academically, musically and as a strong player for Carroll County Hockey Club. She plans to go north for her college education, Boston University or Michigan University are her choices.

The Carroll County Hockey Club is part of the Monacacy Valley Hockey League. Recently, five Bears were chosen for the Conference All-Star selection — Hunter Finks, Jack Perna, Caleb Ludwig, Perry Goodale, and Connor Finch.
