On Dec. 14-16, 2018, Carroll Gymnastics competed in the Christmas on the Chesapeake meet at the Baltimore Convention Center. The meet featured 71 gyms from 11 different states on the East Coast, with competitors from levels 3-10.
This was the second meet of the season for the CGI competitive team.
Brooke Shaffer scored a 9.5 on bars to win her age division in Level 3, which is coached by Kate Gardner, Hunter Broman and Irina Koroleva. Shaffer finished second in the all-around competition with a score of 36.100. She was also third on floor with a 9.10 and sixth on beam with an 8.85.
Brooklyn Tyler finished second on beam with a score of 9.15.
Madison Simmen finished eighth in the all-around with a score of 33.5, placing fourth on floor with a 9.0 and eighth on vault with an 8.6.
Katy Resh scored an 8.85 (eighth place) on beam, an 8.95 (ninth place) on floor, and an 8.7 (ninth place) on vault to finish 12th in the all-around with a score of 34.7.
Maya Slominski was 10th on vault with a score of 8.7.
Ainsley Ely placed ninth on beam with an 8.25, and seventh on floor with an 8.6.
Audrey Holden was ninth on vault with an 8.8, and Lily Easter placed 10th on vault with an 8.7.
The Level 4 team, coached by Haley Zincon, Jess Barnes and Lynzie Ritz, also had a strong showing.
Natalie Wang was second on vault with a 9.0 and eighth on floor with an 8.6 to earn ninth in the all-around with a score of 34.75.
Emma Stapleton was 11th in the all-around (34.5) with an 8.5 (eighth place) finish on vault.
Mackenzie Buckingham tied for 10th on beam with a 9.0. Ella Fritz was fifth on vault with an 8.35.
Layla Kaplan placed fourth on vault with an 8.8 and tied for 10th on beam with a 9.1.
Annabelle Lam was third on floor with a 9.05, and Hannah Spurgeon tied for 10th on vault with an 8.2.
For the Optional team, coached by Wendy Bloom, John Perna and Vladimir Korolev, two Level 7 gymnasts placed on beam — Rheda Funk was third with an 8.75 and Abby Wimmer took sixth with an 8.15.
Samantha Wood finished sixth on vault with an 8.65.
In Level 8, Kyra Martindale finished third in the all-around with a score of 34.4. She had the top score on bars with a 9.3, and was sixth on beam with an 8.325.
