Men's Basketball: Gibbs leads Mount St. Mary's to first win of the season

Sophomore guard Jalen Gibbs had his first 30-point effort as a player for Mount St. Mary’s, and the performance led the Mountaineers to their first win of the season.

Gibbs netted 30 points in the Mount’s 74-59 victory over Wilson College on Saturday at Knott Arena.

Gibbs sank six 3-pointers and finished 11-for-19 shooting, and Mount St. Mary’s improved to 1-9. He scored 18 points in the second half.

Freshman Vado Morse scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds coming off the bench, while sophomore Omar Habwe filled the stat sheet with eight points, seven rebounds, and five assists.

Keion Adams led Wilson, a Division III school, with 16 points.

The Mount led 35-33 at halftime before opening things up in the second half. The game also marked the first victory for new coach Dan Engelstad.

Gibbs, who came to Emmitsburg via transfer from Drake, is averaging 17.2 points per game to lead the Mountaineers.

Morse is next at 10.6 points per game, followed by Habwe at 9.2.

The Mount returns to action Dec. 18 at American for a 7 p.m tip-off.
