Weightlifting: Carroll County athletes excel at annual high school competition

The annual Carroll County High School Powerlifting Meet took place Feb. 23, 2019 at Westminster High School, and featured 34 lifters from around the county.

Sarah Blanton of Manchester Valley High took top girls honors, while Westminster’s Noah Baugher earned the top boys award.

Blanton (148 pounds) won for the second year in a row at the meet, now in its fifth year. Her combined lifts, between squat, bench press, and dead lift, totaled 745 pounds — a meet record.

Baugher (220) finished at 1,430 pounds for his three lifts, also a new meet record.

Other girls meet records went to Century’s Elizabeth Chaney (123 pounds, 585), Westminster’s Alexa Cuddy (132, 565), and Westminster’s Chichi Nowakeji (220, 725) and Kathleen Devilbiss (HWT, 765).

On the boys side, Baugher was joined by Westminster’s Mitchell Kepler (165, 1,180) and South Carroll’s Michael Crown (super HWT, 1,330) as meet record-breakers.

123 pounds: Elizabeth Chaney, Century, 585; Lexie Smith, Westminster, 535.

132 pounds: Alexia Cuddy, Westminster, 565; Julianna Beltz, Westminster, 535; Mackenzie Zamora, Winters Mill, 400.

165 pounds: Emily Kain, Century, 715; Corrie Karas, Westminster, 700.

181 pounds: Melissa James, South Carroll, 585.

HWT: Kathleen Devilbiss, Westminster, 765.
