The Maryland State Highway Administration will begin to resurface and restripe three miles of Route 32 between Bennett Avenue and Short Lane Road in Westminster July 21.
Crews will work at night Sunday through Thursday between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., SHA announced Friday in a news release.
Traffic will be directed using a flagging operation with cones, barrels and temporary traffic signs also guiding motorists through the work zone. More than 17,000 drivers travel this section of Route 32 each day.
SHA last resurfaced the section in 1999 and the new pavement will extend the overall surface life of the roadway. All work should be complete by late summer.
The $1.1 million project is part of an area-wide safety and resurfacing contract issued to C.J. Miller, LLC of Hampstead. Drivers are reminded to remain alert for work crews, obey flag persons and drive at the appropriate speed when traveling through the work zone.
"Using a nighttime flagging operation allows SHA to complete this paving work without a major disruption to traffic," SHA administrator Melinda Peters said in a statement. "Drivers should remain alert for workers and equipment when driving along MD 32."
