Random House will soon be expanding its Westminster operations, which will lead to a "significant number of new jobs" being added, according to a Carroll County news release.
The 1.2 million square-foot operations center will be receiving a multi-year investment upgrade, including a mezzanine and new equipment to support expanded operations, according to the release.
The Westminster operation is a division of Penguin Random House, a leading trade book publisher and one of the county's leading employers.
Penguin Random House's employees are responsible for shipping more than one million books and audio titles to North American retailers every day. The Westminster location also supports the company's information technology, customer service, financial operations, corporate payroll, inventory management, transportation and engineering services.
"Random House has been a major employer in our county since the mid 1960s. Carroll County was very proactive in ensuring that this remained the case," Commissioner David Roush said in a statement. "We are grateful the company ultimately decided to retain its Westminster location and that Penguin Random House will expand here."
Random House formally merged with Penguin Books on July 1, 2013. While examining its distribution and fulfillment arrangements, the company decided to expand its locations in Westminster and Crawfordsville, Ind.
