After Carroll County Public Schools canceled evening activities Wednesday, including the Board of Education meeting, officials said school will open Thursday, starting two hours late.
Officials had decided Tuesday night to close public schools on Wednesday as the snowstorm stretched into the evening and the temperatures plummeted.
In an email, school system spokeswoman Carey Gaddis said Wednesday's Board of Education meeting, work session, and public hearing on the budget proposal will be rescheduled.
All community use of school facilities is also canceled, she said.
Carroll government offices and the Northern Landfill opened at 10 a.m. Wednesday after closing Tuesday.
The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for Carroll County until to 11 p.m. Tuesday, with anywhere from eight to 14 inches of snow a possibility.
With frigid air moving in after the snow, with a wind chill as low as 10 degrees below zero, school officials decided Tuesday night to close schools Wednesday. Drifting snow also could be an issue on Wednesday.
Carroll County Public Schools' students had the day off on Tuesday.
Carroll Community College and McDaniel College announced early Tuesday that they would be closing. McDaniel said Tuesday night that the college would open at noon on Wednesday.
