Westminster Book Discussion Group: Dark Places by Gillian Flynn: 6:30 p.m. For adults. Please join us for a fun and exciting discussion of each month's featured title. This program is presented in collaboration with the One Maryland One Book initiative of the Maryland Humanities Council. A Celebrating America program.

Year-Round Family Story Time: School Days: 1 p.m. For all ages. An open invitation. This weekly story time, open to all ages, introduces stories through books, songs, and activities. Children 3 and younger must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

Needle Nuts: 7 p.m. For adults. Wanted: Knitters and crocheters of all levels. Would you like to share your projects and talents with others? Or do you want to learn how to knit or crochet? Then here's your chance. Grab your needles and yarn (beginning knitters bring size 8 needles, crocheters a size H hook, and worsted weight yarn) and join the rest of us at the Westminster Branch the first Thursday of every month.

Preschool Science: Ants on Parade: 10 a.m. For ages 3-6. Register for this event today. Help your preschool child discover science concepts with fun, hands-on experiments and activities. Children age 3 must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

Saturday

Space: To the Moon and Back: 10 a.m. For ages 4-11. Register for this event today. Future space explorers will love this chance for hands-on discovery of lunar information supplied by NASA. To add to the learning fun, we will make jet packs to help our imaginations leap into space. Only kids need to register.

Can a $20,000 House Save the American Dream?: 1 p.m. For adults. Tired of being tied to high mortgage payments, constant repairs and the time-suck of home ownership? Dee Williams, author of The Big Tiny: A Built-It-Myself Memoir, co-owner of Portland Alternative Dwellings, teacher, and sustainability advocate, will tell you how you can trim down your life and have more time for your dreams by living the big tiny. Her story has been featured on Good Morning America, NBC Nightly News, NPR, PBS, MSNBC, CNN, and CBC. This program is supported by The Sierra Club-Catoctin Group ExCom in partnership with CCPL. This program is sponsored in part by a Community Arts Development Grant from the Carroll County Arts Council and the Maryland State Arts Council.

PAWS to Read: 2 p.m. For ages 5-17. Register for this event today. Come to the library and read a story to a book-loving dog. Research shows that children enjoy improving their reading skills by practice reading to animals. Registration preferred, but walk-ins welcome. Only kids need to register.
