Eldersburg Public Library July 8-14

Twos and Threes Together: Beach: 9:45 a.m. For ages 2-3, with accompanying adult caregiver. This lively, fast-paced storytime for young children includes books, songs, fingerplays and movement.

Reptile Wrap-Up: 1 p.m. For all ages. Register for this event. A naturalist will introduce participants to some scaly creatures as well as share myths, histories and benefits of these animals. Presented by the Scales and Tales program of the Maryland Park Service. This program is supported by Mount Garage Doors in partnership with CCPL. Children 3 and younger must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

Gut Healthy Foods: 7 p.m. For adults. Register for this event. Explore easy ways to add fermented and cultured foods to your daily meals. Clinical Nutrition Intern Karen Suzanne Daniel will explore the health benefits of fermented foods and suggest easy ways to get started. Several different fermented foods will be presented with samples available to try. Refreshments will be served.

Knit Wits: 7 p.m. For adults. Beginners are asked to bring light-colored worsted weight yarn and size 8 needles to the class.

Read and Play: 9:45 a.m. For ages birth-24 months, with accompanying adult caregiver. Join your little one at a storytime featuring interactive books, rhymes, music and movement, followed by playgroup activities which allow children to practice skills and socialize.

Tinker Tots: 10 a.m. For ages 2-5. Fun, playful activities will engage the mind and body as your child builds his/her fine motor skills and creativity. Children 3 and younger must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. Only kids need to register.

All About Cows: 1 p.m. For ages 5-8. Registration required. Take a peek into the world of Clarabelle the cow as participants follow her throughout a day on the farm. The event will also feature crafts.

Supervillain Academy: 6 p.m. For ages 11-17. Registration required. Join the library for a lock-in full of games, challenges, food and prizes. Costumes are welcome. This after-hours program is a parent drop-off event, and requires a permission slip; slips will be available at the Information Desk and during drop off. Refreshments will be served.

Saturday

LEGO Creations: 11 a.m. For ages 5-adults. Join the library for a LEGO program in which you can build whatever you would like. Blocks will be supplied.

Free Spirit Book Club: "A Natural History of Dragons" by Marie Brennan: 2 p.m. For adults. Join for a discussion of the chosen book. A Celebrating America program.

Family Storytime: Turtles: 9:45 a.m. For all ages. Share books, stories, rhymes, music and movement in a format appropriate for young children. Children 3 and younger must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

LEGO Mindstorms Robotics Camp: 1 p.m. For ages 8-12. Registration required. During this camp, participants will learn how to build a robot and program it using basic programming techniques. They will also learn how to program the touch and light sensors, as well as some fun additions like cool displays and sounds. After assemby, the robots will compete in a sumo wrestling-style tournament to see who will be the grand sumo-bot champion. Participants must be able to attend all classes. Classes are from 1-4 p.m. on July 13, 14, 15 and 16. Only kids need to register.

Service Learning Hours: KidWorks: 5:30 p.m. For ages 12-17. KidWorks meets twice a month. You must come to both meetings to earn three service learning hours.
