Owings Mills restaurant serves bagels, breakfast and much more

Am I the only one who loves bagels any time of the day?

I mean for breakfast, as a midnight snack, with lunch or dinner — all is great with me.

I remember going to a sleepover at a friend's house while I was in middle school. My friend's mom served us bagels with cream cheese, tomatoes, sliced cheese, and scrambled eggs for breakfast. She explained that we could make a sandwich or eat each item individually.

I was hooked, and so began my love of all things bagels.

One of my favorite spots to go for a good bagel is Courtney's Bagel Cafe & Deli on Owings Mills Boulevard.

Courtney's offers a number of spreads, including cream cheese, veggie spread, lox spread, butter, jelly, and a spread of the month. Of course, you can get your bagels to go in singles, a half-dozen or a dozen.

You can also get breakfast favorites like omelets, yogurt muffins and danishes.

Courtney's also offers such amazing delights as shrimp salad on a bagel, a chicken bacon ranch wrap, bacon, lettuce and tomato — my all-time favorite — a pizza bagel, a cheese melt, and more. It also serves another favorite of mine: the bagel dog.

Courtney's combination sandwiches include a turkey and cheddar melt, a tuna melt, a grilled Reuben, and the Cloak and Dagger — corned beef, coleslaw and Russian dressing.

There is also the Californian, which has avocado and veggies, the cream cheese melt, and the turkey powerhouse, which has turkey breast, cheddar cheese, alfalfa sprouts, lettuce and tomato.

Courtney's salads are listed under the "Volcanic Zone — an explosion of flavor" on its menu. I fully agree with that description.

The salads offered are the grilled chicken Caesar, the chicken pasta salad, and the Oriental chicken salad.

The Oriental chicken salad is my favorite; I love the mix of chicken, Mandarin oranges, chow mien noodles and sesame dressing on a bed of fresh lettuce. My mouth is watering just writing about it.

One of my guilty pleasures at Courtney's is the Country Coffee Coolers. The mocha cooler is espresso, chocolate syrup, milk and vanilla. The mocha mocha is double espresso and chocolate syrup over ice with chocolate milk. And those are just two varieties.

There is no better pick-me-up in the midst of a hectic afternoon than a nice, smooth blended iced coffee drink.

Of course, Courtney's also serves hot coffee beverages, like a cafe mocha, an espresso macchiato, and a cafe Americano.

Courtney's has a new chai tea, as well.

You know me — I have a sweet tooth, and Courtney's does not disappoint with its rainbow cookies, marble pound cake, jelly-filled rainbow cake, chocolate tops, black and white cookies, elephant ears, and caramel nut sticks.

One of the things that makes Courtney's great is how the establishment supports the community and Baltimore in general. The restaurant has been known to serve purple Ravens bagels in honor of our local football team.

Courtney's Bagel Cafe & Deli is at 11000 Owings Mills Blvd. in Owings Mills.
