Governor should reject RCC nominee [Letter]

As chairman of the Carroll County Democratic Central Committee, I denounce the recent actions of the Carroll County Republican Central Committee for nominating former commissioner Robin Frazier to replace Joseph Getty as our state Senator in Annapolis.

It is impossible to understand their action, except in the context of a purely cynical, back-room deal. Why else does the official group, representing local Republicans, select a nominee who lost two elections in 2014?

Maryland law charges local central committees to put forth nominations for vacated offices. Much can be learned by examining the individuals chosen and the process utilized. Frazier's resume contains no significant experience that indicates she would be an effective representative of her constituents, and her policies and beliefs have proven repeatedly to be too extreme for most in Carroll County. When coupled with the secretive method that the Carroll County Republican Central Committee used to pick her, you are left with a committee that was ultimately interested in shielding itself from blame and concealing an unpopular, ineffective candidate from public scrutiny.

The actions of the Carroll County Republican Central Committee once again demonstrate that the citizens of Carroll County are the real losers. Gov.-elect Hogan would better serve our community and the state by rejecting Frazier's nomination and selecting a more capable, less extreme candidate to represent the majority of Carroll County's population.
