Allow me to respond to Mr. Zirpoli's op-ed on Jan. 11 and suggest there is a very simple health care plan that is better than the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare). It is a single payer plan or Medicare for all.
This system is used by many countries throughout the world, including Taiwan and our neighbor Canada. It is not socialized medicine as many falsely call single payer plans. Private and public hospitals and clinics continue as usual. People are able to go to their doctors of choice.
The major difference from the present chaotic system is that all providers are paid by one agency. The reduction in administrative costs alone will result in tremendous savings over what presently exists.
Yes, we will pay a tax for this system, much like the Social Security tax, but that payment will be far less than present insurance rates and deductibles we now pay. Plus, there will be no co-pays and prescription costs will be drastically reduced with no "donuts" to worry about.
Mr. Zirpoli, and President Trump, there is a win-win medical program that is easy to implement, will reduce costs and be available to everyone regardless of age or pre-existing conditions. It is the single payer system — Medicare for all!
