According to Fox News, Planned Parenthood should no longer receive any federal monies to support the specific health needs of women. The rationale being that there are citizens who oppose abortion on religious grounds; thus funding tramples on their religious beliefs. I can understand that for religious reasons this position might be held. However, those with such beliefs have the option not to have an abortion. I, personally, would have difficulty making the decision to have an abortion. However, since I gave birth to a child with severe multiple birth defects I would never knowingly bring such a child in the world again. And ... there would be medical procedures that would permit me to have this knowledge prior to birth.

The caregivers for children with severe multiple handicaps is minimal; thus hiring the most competent staff that will give ongoing care is constantly a challenge. This clearly sends the message that, as a culture, we do not value these caregivers who are tending to the needs of the least of these in our midst. So, please don't take away my choice or any woman's choice to have a safe and legal abortion, or better yet, to obtain a contraceptive device to avoid an unwanted pregnancy.

As a conscientious objector I abhor the fact that my tax dollars go toward our military complex. However, I still pay my taxes, for it is not my prerogative to impose my religious beliefs on all citizens. However, I have great difficulty with why the taking of life after birth is not deemed as abhorrent to those who object so vehemently against a safe and legal abortion.
