Rothschild a reliable conservative [Letter]

In an opinon column prior to the primary, Times editor Jim Lee suggested to Carroll County Democrats that they register as Republicans if they wanted their voice to count in the Primary Election. Now, the community organizers are at it again. Their newest write-in candidate admits that he recently switched parties to support Barbara Biller in the Primary Election.

The left speaks of tolerance, acceptance and respect. They offer little of it if you disagree with them. Miss Manners of Mount Airy teaches etiquette and civility, but showed none of it in her letter to the editor. Other liberal Mount Airy activists, who never support Republicans, write letter after letter of support for every candidate who runs against Commissioner Richard Rothschild. Instead of open civil discussion, they frame every issue as a crises and use slogans like "vote sanity," defining sanity in their terms. Now that their candidate is running as a Republican, they suddenly act like they are above party lines.

They claim teachers have had no increases but hide the facts. Teachers received a cost of living increase three years ago, and millions of dollars in bonuses over the past three years. They speak of a crisis in education funding, but they ignore the fact that funding is up slightly, while enrollment is down more than 1,000 students. They define the common good as what they want, and they don't care about how much taxes go up to get it.

They love Common Core, but Common Core is the key reason teachers cite for leaving their profession early and retiring. They complain when thousands of home-school and private school families get a small portion of their own taxes back, calling it a cash payout, but they don't tell you that total funding for this group of children is less than 1 percent of the amount spent on public schools.

They claim racism and cite the Southern Poverty Law Center as a resource. With a credible sounding name, it sounds like a legitimate organization on racism and hate crimes. They won't tell you that the SPLC was recently taken off the FBI's website as a credible organization.

Rothschild is a reliable conservative. His write-in opponent is a lifelong Democrat who just switched parties and is supported by community organizers and government unions that want more of your money. I am voting for Rothschild.
