Dorothy Scanlan, a Democrat running for House of Delegates in District 5, has a vision for Carroll County. A quick look at her website tells voters all they need to know.

On the issue of transportation, Scanlan favors expanding and extending mass transit, including the expansion of light rail. Democrats in Annapolis have already proposed a Red Line that would connect West Baltimore to Woodlawn. Does Scanlan's vision include extension of the Red Line to Westminster?

On the issues of the environment and energy, Scanlan envisions a comprehensive environmental plan across all counties and policies pushing alternative energy. The Democrats in Annapolis have already proposed that all local land use planning should give way to central control under PlanMaryland, and have also subsidized wind farms by charging BGE ratepayers. Does Scanlan's vision include support of PlanMaryland and taxpayer subsidized wind farms?

On the issue of education, Scanlan is in favor of Common Core and believes any deficiencies can be fixed. Does Scanlan think having bureaucrats in Washington force standards on Carroll County to make them like schools in rural Arkansas is the way to educate our children?

On the issue of taxation, Scanlan favors tax breaks for the film industry and other selected businesses, while remaining silent on cutting any of the 40 taxes and fees raised by the Democrats in the past eight years. How does Scanlan propose we pay for all the goodies she envisions?

Scanlan boasts that she will work with Democrats to bring the bacon back to Carroll County. Does that mean Scanlan favors Carroll County be a piglet at the trough in tax and spend Annapolis where the wild boars of Baltimore, Prince George's County and Montgomery County dictate which scraps of our tax money we get back?
