We asked them to fight an unpopular war a half a world away. More than 58,000 never made it home and about 150,000 were wounded, not counting the hundreds of thousands who returned with some form of post-traumatic stress disorder. Those who did come home weren't treated as heroes. Instead, they were ridiculed, spat upon and called baby killers. By and large, the American soldier who served during the Vietnam War didn't get the proper respect they deserved.
