Since the election cycle concluded, I have been watching "The West Wing." Getting my political fix with my all-time favorite Democrat President, the erudite, professorial, Nobel Prize winning economist, Josiah Bartlett. This step back a dozen years is seemingly ripped from the headlines. An episode from 2003 has President Bartlett erroneously accepting a flag from Taiwan and causing a stir with the Chinese. Flip to 2016, replace Bartlett with Trump and flag with phone call and the West Wing writers seem prescient. The current Republican platform references Reagan era policies and affirms the position, "As a loyal friend of America, Taiwan has merited our strong support… ." There is nothing new under the sun.
