Freedom is in the unique position of being one of only two designated growth areas in Carroll County without a mayor or town council and our own planning department. However, we do have water and sewer and that with a lack of representation makes us a prime target for overdevelopment. Freedom is on the precipice of build out. A few thousand homes will fill the only vacant residential land left. Then what? Families who purchased homes here because they love the rural nature of this county are leaving. The county can no longer provide the predictability they crave — good schools, low crime rates, fair taxes. The threat of higher densities, more school closings, overcrowded roads and increasing crime is scaring people away. They escaped urbanization once and they are doing it again.
