Nonprofit View: Hill Y gives back, offers gift of good health

The 2018 Holiday Season is well under way in the Carroll County community and the Hill Y in Westminster has two special goals: Giving back and giving good health.

Held bright and early this year on a very chilly Thanksgiving morning, the 9th annual Y Turkey Trot Charity 5K was held along Md. 32, beginning at Carroll Community College making a loop on Kate Wagner Road and ending at the Hill Y. This healthy, family-friendly tradition is always open to individuals of all ages and abilities. Everyone is invited to walk, run or leisurely stroll the 3.1-mile course and soak in the exciting and feel-good vibes of the day. The Y Turkey Trot Charity 5K reminds us what Thanksgiving and the holiday season is about: appreciating our good fortune, promoting good health, bonding with friends and family and reaching beyond ourselves to help others.

Thanks to this year’s 2,086 registered participants, proceeds from this major community fundraising event will fund Y Open Doors Financial Aid to help families living in poverty throughout our community afford Y programs which keep them and their children active, learning and participating in all the Y has to offer.

There are times in life when everyone needs help. The circumstances may vary, but the need for human connection is inevitable. It’s what defines community and humanity.

The Hill Y in Westminster hosts one of seven race locations throughout The Y in Central Maryland and this year had 2,086 participants registered.

The Y also promotes good health this holiday season by encouraging the entire community to participate in membership and an active lifestyle. We embrace giving the gift of health during every season and December is the perfect time. The Y is a great place to be a part of a community that is dedicated to helping the community learn, explore new activities, and make friends at every stage of life. With a shared commitment to nurturing the full potential of children, improving health and well-being, and supporting our neighbors, a Y membership can bring about change in individuals, families, and our community.

The Hill Y offers state of the art fitness equipment, an indoor heated pool and many fitness classes and activities, but what underlies it all is a deep commitment to building relationships, strengthening families and communities, focusing on the more meaningful goal of well-being.

The Y is for all! Every person, every circumstance! We open our hearts and we open our doors through our financial aid scholarship program.

It is not too late to donate to the Y or to give the gift of health. Gift certificates are always available. Please call 410-848-3660 for more information, stop by the Hill Y location at 1719 Sykesville Road in Westminster, or visit www.ymaryland.org.
