The Bonds Meadow Rotary Club is on the move this year. We’ve been able to make significant financial contributions to our community through fundraising events we’ve initiated, and by participating in those spearheaded by others. We believe that our efforts are part of the greater good, and that we’re one of many fine organizations that are actively making our community a better place to work and live.
Our club hosts an annual Bull Roast, and details on it can be found on our website. The Bull Roast has typically brought in about 150 guests for a great dinner accompanied by a silent auction. Another one of our big fundraisers is the Oktoberfest event that takes place early October, and is held at the Agricultural Center. It’s an event that is co-sponsored by all four Rotary Clubs in Carroll County, and brings in additional funds that our club sends back out into our community. As part of our plan for 2019, we are looking for additional events, whether it be participation in a town or county event, or one that we sponsor.
So what do we do with the funds we raise? There are a plethora of nonprofit organizations throughout the county we’ve supported, and plan to continue supporting. The list runs the gamut from literacy programs to domestic violence to natural disasters. Most of this is through financing operations, but there are also many times we go out into the community on behalf of other organizations. An example of this is during the holidays, our members ring the Salvation Army bell for a day. It’s a great experience, and our members come away from their time with the bell feeling that they gained more than they gave.
Along with our goals of making our living environment better, we also host a speaker series at our weekly meetings. We’ve been very fortunate to host a wide range of topics that are of and about Carroll County. Over the past year, we’ve hosted numerous presentations on the opioid epidemic from a variety of viewpoints including law enforcement and recovery. This has been particularly interesting for us as it’s an issue that touches us all locally, and it’s also a big push for Rotary International. Other great topics that we’ve learned about include young women’s initiatives for social change and financial planning. This is quite a wide range of topics, and it keeps our meetings interesting with lots of great questions and discussion.
If you have been considering joining a service organization and/or giving back to our community, please accept our invitation to join us for breakfast on Tuesday mornings at 7:15 a.m. at Carroll Lutheran Village and see what we are all about. With the goals we’re giving ourselves, there’s plenty of room for ideas, participation and a little sweat equity. Please give our group consideration as New Year’s resolutions are formulated.
